The slide or rolling gate is a common gate used for security. When it is opened, the gate moves sideways, and aligns to a recess that is typically set into the ground. It can be a manual, automatic or a combination of both. The movement is achieved by wheels attached to the bottom of the gate. A slide gate is often used in business entrances and parking garages because it allows for a good amount of clearance for vehicles to pass through.

A swing gate opens like a door would, by swinging on hinges. Swing gates are commonly found in residential neighborhoods because of the ease of use. These fences are installed when aesthetics are a priority, and can be used for both commercial and residential applications where they provide a more decorative option.

A vertical lift gate is opened by moving the gate upward instead of to the side. Automatic lift gates are ideal for areas where there is limited side space. Height sensors raise the gate over the height of authorized vehicles, allowing them to pass through without having to stop or open the gate manually.
